I find it hypocritical that people are pointing the finger at one wrong behavior and sticking up for another. "Modding bad. Cheating in the name of transparency good."
Maybe you find it hypocritical because you're rewriting reality. You were on solid ground when you said 'wrong behaviour' but then went further to define both as cheating? No. Data Mining or leaking information is in no way, cheating. It's this extra thinking of yours that just makes your stance ridiculous. You don't get to just redefine things and then act like a confused victim when people don't line up with your new version of reality.
Do you even understand that data mining from files and obtaining information does not put ALL information at risk? Do you understand that not all data is housed in the same place, nor even secured by the same systems or security processes?
Data mining unreleased content that's included in a patch update but not necessarily live doesn't put account information of all users in the game at risk. Stop pretending it does.
Stop acting like someone who has access to a featured crystal pool, or an arena leaderboard and shares that information before Kabam wants to is also siphoning fractions of a penny every time Kabam makes a sale. Or has access to all our passwords and bank account information.
Treat the issue for what it is. It's a violation of their ToS and actively acts against their business interests in relation to their control of information and security of said information. That does not equate to "Dur... all our data information is at risk due to these leaks". Stop exaggerating this. These leaks have been going on for a LONG time. I trust Kabam has made efforts to secure the more sensitive information, don't you?
We aren't discussing the most alarmist form of a data breach - so stop treating it like it is one and stop expecting everyone else to also. You don't get to say their identical, because they're not. One would actually be a crime.
Hacking is just as bad. "leaking"=hacking the game.
Leaking is not always the result of hacking. Data Mining does not often even utilize hacking. Data mining and data breaches are mutually exclusive things and shouldn't be used interchangeably.
So no, it's not all the same from that perspective...

You're whitewashing the issue. Data mining (the act) is not illegal. The methods of which you acquire that data in terms of this game are, and what you choose to do with that information can certainly be. Don't mistake their overlooking for some kind of sign that it's harmless. I can assure you. If it was my company, I'd not only have the leakers shut down on social media platforms, I'd also pursue cooperation from them pursuant to legal action. As a consumer, I don't consent to any data to be collected by anyone but Kabam and their partners for internal use. That's another layer. You can stop with the smokescreen. Kabam may not feel it's worth pursuing, but I would. Anyone stealing information from my company and releasing it without permission would find themselves in a long and drawn out lawsuit they couldn't afford.
Sure. So I know they mentioned new Arena Rewards in the last Twitch Live. I'm curious to see what they'll look like because it's clear cutoffs are mounting at a faster rate than I've ever seen. Granted, we have 7*s now so that adds another layer. I'm just wondering how much longer the current format will be feasible for Players. I'm not always a doomsday person, but in this case the numbers are somewhat concerning for future results. It's getting harder to keep up with.
