generic 4 to 5 gem from carina´s disappear

Opening crystals I got a 6 star rank 4 to 5 science gem, I used it on scorpion... when I go to ascend my second 6 star character, in this case infamous ironman, I can't do it because the generic ascension gem disappeared . i need help to figure this out because i am so disappointed that this is happening to me. thank you.
