Thing synergies

I'm trying to use Thing in the incursion along with the Champion and Heimdall, but their synergies keep triggering at the same time.
I know to add Thing, then Champion, then Heimdall to the team. My hope is to use the Champion synergy to build furies and have Heimdall as a backup.
I remember doing this for AQs back in the day. Did something change or am I missing something?
