saving, collecting, hoarding. there's a bunch of ways to say it and to most people it means saving a resource for best-case situations.
respectfully, it's odd that the devs phrase it like this, because the game incentivizes hoarding more than ever. july and cyber monday unit offers used to be 15k and now it's hitting the high 30's and 40's. how are we moving away from hoarding when the demands for units keeps going up?
Because it never occurred to Kabam that anyone would think saving units for expensive things would be hoarding, any more than people saving for a new car would be considered hoarding money. This is something you have to be exposed to a lot of forum posts over a lot of years, or just have an extremely low opinion of people in general, to be able to predict.
Most normal people in most normal situations would not consider this to be hoarding. This is the kind of thing that only happens on internet forums involving games, politics, or the question of whether hotdogs are a sandwich.
1 the practice of collecting or accumulating something (such as money or food)
2 psychology : the compulsion to continually accumulate a variety of items that are often considered useless or worthless by others accompanied by an inability to discard the items without great distress
i mean sure the devs are using #2 when talking about non-units, but a lot people use #1 for units especially since it's just a game with no real life monetary value.
hotdogs are not a sandwich unless they ran out of buns and using sliced bread instead
if you spend money you can get those units by purchasing the deal that includes 6* shards in the unit store so I'm guessing that's why they didn't tell people ahead of time...they want more people spending real life money on that deal.
Practically, when you have a big amount of something that can be used all together or a big part of it for a certain offer/deal/buy/sale, is not hoarding. Hoarding is having so many things that you cannot manage the clutter, and find it difficult or impossible to throw things away. If you have 40k units (lol) it s not hoarding, because you ll likely spend them all, or 90% of the amount during the next big event. Same with shards, you have let s say, 300k 6* crystal shards, but in 2 months you ll pend all of them on the next featured crystal. Also not hoarding.
On the other hand, getting every day solo crystals from the solo objectives, or t3cc crystals, or something like this that you cannot actually use and you don't sell them, it s hoarding.
Hoarding is also having 75 t2 alpha and t5 basic cats in overstock, but kabam was nice enough to not let us sell them, so they ll expire on their own.
I am wondering if OP.opened everything else? PHC, 3*, 4*, 5*, t3cc crystals since he took the post verbatim. Hoarding has a negative connotation, ever watch Hoarders? They hoard useless junk not useful things like 6* shards.
Nobody took the post verbatim, I only opened what I had because I was close to my next 7 star after paragon gauntlet.
As for PHCs 2mill and solo shards 10mill
Looking at your screenshot…what a missed opportunity to build an event that allows players to offload things like 4-5* shards, low rarity AGs, etc. that just aggregate and collect dust. That’s not actually hoarding, but rather barely useful things piling up.
If the Loyalty bundle isn't obtainable by most of the community it's going to be a disaster. A cheap 1000 points for everyone is their only saving grace at this point.
If you hoard, you have resources and flexibility. If you have that, you're less likely to spend. If you shoot from the hip, you're more likely to spend because you just play in the moment.
Everything is a resource if there is the ability to trade it for something else.
And there's a difference between hoarding and managing your resources. When opening things is completely random, and your tired of rng giving you junk, you're more likely to hold onto things until you absolutely need to use them or you see a good opportunity to use them.
Just like solo event shards. I don't play arena, yet arena boosts are so heavily weighted in those crystals, it's a waste for me. I don't need gold, and I'm tired of expiring arena boosts and selling them. So I don't open them. Is that hoarding if I have millions of them? Or just common sense because the likely rewards are just pure waste?
Either way, kabam's decisions are all focused around revenue. They're not looking out for the player base. It's really a joke they try and use it as an excuse or cover when the purpose is to increase spending, period. Even funnier is a debate about it.

With each event that comes the voice of f2p becomes less and less, even if their intention was to completely drain our wallet, they did say we wouldn’t have to hoard or “save” as some here are trying to insist

@DrZola Couldn't agree with you more lad. And they could’ve added those things to the Comissary event so that people woudnt have to spend or go out of their way to get the final milestone
