Arena scoring system

Why is the arena scoring system still based off the Champs you have available and not the Champs you can beat in arena. If I'm going up against 7* with 4* and winning shouldn't I get some type of skill bonus ? Arenas seem like a area where skill and time should be able to get you new Champs but with the scoring system in place, it's all about what you have and nothing to do with skill or time
