Defenders Unstoppable neutralizing incoming damage

I was finishing Cavalier level of the monthly quest and against Hulk Buster, the nodes active buff stated Every 10 seconds the defender gains an Unstoppable Buff for 2 seconds, and only attack and health boosted, Science ascendancy level 3.
While using Cosmic Ghost Ryder in the middle of his special 2, Hulk Buster went Unstoppable and all of the incoming damage was purified/made to equal zero. I timed the attack with low health and when my attack ended I was knocked out.
Unstoppable should not purify damage, especially mid attack. I've encountered this on other paths, others defenders who gain unstoppable.
Is unstoppable broken or am I missing something ?
