Ranking summoned symbiote

I just yesterday fully explored the new side quest "knulls void" and I got 96 klyntar cats, and it won't allow me to bring him past rank 2. I don't understand why it's saying he's maxed in my champion roster, can anybody help me with this and is anyone else experiencing this aswell? Thanks
