So... Spiderman 2.. (Spoilers)

I recently finished Spiderman 2 and post-game clarity is setting in hard pretty quick so i wanted to get a few of my thoughts out there and get some opinions/answers on them.

Wtf happened here? How did Insomniac go from making Spiderman 1 and Miles Morales to this? The only improvement here is in the traversal mechanics, and even those only got a few (but meaningful) changes.

First, my biggest gripe with the game. VENOM. Why did they rush the entire Venom and Symbiote story so hard? Literally, as soon as Peter finds out Venom is an alien, the story shifts into maximum overdrive and beelines it towards the finale. Even if you take your time and really savor it, it still feels rushed.
They were absolutely cooking with the story (mostly; I'll get to more gripes in a second, lol) until this point, and then they threw the entire thing out the window. Harry and Venom's motivation was great, IMO, but there wasn't much done with it. Not enough time was given after Venom rebonded with Harry. There should have been at least another half of the story after this. I could go on and on about the handling of Venom and the symbiote invasion for forever, so I'll cut it short here.

Next, WHY kill off half of the sinister 6? Such a colossal waste. And even worse, why was Scorpion the only one to be killed on screen? At least show us Kraven killing them if you're going to take them out. Rhino, Vulture, Shocker, Scorpion. All dead. And for what reason? We know Kraven is a threat, but they didn't have to waste all these established villains in this way to get the message to us.

Next, why are they introducing Silk when they can't even handle having Miles and Peter in the same game? Sure, Peter is "retiring," but we know he'll always be Spiderman. Switching back and forth between the both of them made their stories feel incomplete and short. Introducing an entire third spider person here doesn't seem like a good idea.

Next, I know we've had two different explanations, but this game has blown the issue up even more. Where are the other heroes? I'm not even talking about the Avengers, just anyone else. In the first game, they were on the West Coast (OK, cool, I'll buy that; this is a Spiderman game, after all); then, in the comic, Peter mentioned only about six heroes were in New York at a time, and that the Avengers are never around (ok, less believable but I'll still buy it for now) and then we get to this game. No explanation at all. Where is everyone?
We know for a fact that at least Dr. Strange and Wong are here in New York during the entire 2nd half of the story. You're telling me they saw the entire city get turned into Symbiote land and were just sipping their coffee, looking out the window going (damn, that's crazy)? Even worse than that. Where are the defenders? You could have, at the very least, had Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist running around the city trying to push back the threat while Peter and Miles were handling the main issue. Maybe you could have even run into them like you do Miles or Peter sometimes in the game. We wouldn't need to be able to play as them or even interact with them that much. Just have them there and acknowledge their existence.

This brings me to the next thing. Wolverine. Forget the X-men for a second. Where is he? We know the Wolverine game is set in the same universe as Spidey, so.... where is he? It's pretty much the same point as the defenders above. If they don't acknowledge his lack of presence in his game, I think it's, yet again, another huge plot fumble.
They can't make this vast, expansive world and include all of these heroes without giving proper explanations as to why they are leaving the whole of New York to just Spiderman. You're telling me Venom starts threatening to take over the entire world starting in New York, and they all go, "Yeah, Pete's got a lock on this one." they could at least have had Peter call them and have them tell him to f off like they do occasionally in the comics.

The open world also feels extremely dead compared to the last game, and after you finish most of the stuff, there's barely anything to do except swing.

There is more I can go on about the mandatory Hailey side mission, Peter losing his teaching job in .5 seconds, the MJ missions (although they were actually fun this time), Peter and MJ's character models being very off compared to other returning characters, etc., etc. but this is already going on way longer than I intended so im stopping here and getting my breakfast and coffee lol.

What do you guys think?

Adorable, yes. But it shouldnt be mandatory to get a trophy. This is a spiderman game after all. Keep non spiderman things optional. I'd love for more stuff like this(provided they work out the main story issues) but keep it optional.

I actually would've loved if they gave us a couple MJ side missions to do

I think this post will be closed down because it's not related to mcoc at all. They usually close down threads that talks about other ips and games

    What's your point?

I mostly watched my son play and didn’t play much myself. I feel like I can say this because your thread title says there are spoilers.
I really liked the Peter and Harry friendship and the way they did it in the game, but found it weird that they made Harry Venom.

Great game, pretty good story. Just should stick with the original great story of Venom and not try to switch it up.

Was same with the Venom movie. There is no Venom without the symbiote first being attached to Spiderman. That’s where he got most of his powers

Web of shadows is still my favourite spiderman game and I wish they’d remake it.

I really loved how they did Harry in this game. They made him such a likeable guy compared to many other iterations where he isn't as much. I think they had a good thing going with their Venom story here but never gave it enough time to develop and breathe. If there was maybe like 3 more missions or something i think it would have come off better

Also a Web of Shadows remake would be amazing

I think that most of this isn’t really a great critique and people are kinda suffering from internet controversy opinions tainting the game. Spiderman 2 is a massive leap in quality from the last two, graphically, gameplaywise, everything. The story is absolutely incredible, and Venom was terrifying throughout. The side missions were well done and set up some cool stuff. People like to go on yt though and post stuff that makes it sound like the game is somehow worse than the last two because it’s the same length and insomniac didn’t reinvent the wheel with the story. If nobody remembers the doc ock storyline from the last game was the same length as the venom one. Spiderman 2 is perfect. Sure, it could have some more content, but it doesn’t need it to shine. Venom was in the game just long enough for us to want more, and that’s how they’re gonna sell the Venom game that’s supposedly happening.

Plus I’m sorry but the critique “after I finish everything there’s nothing to do” is hilarious. That’s the point.

And I’d imagine wolverine is in canada at this point in time considering the teaser. Plus daredevil’s law firm was foreclosed if you check in-game so they may be off somewhere else as well, and the avengers are on the west coast during that time

Your first point would make sense if Venom was one character. The symbiote leapfrogs so we don't spend enough time with the fully bonded Harry and Venom. In Spiderman 1 we had the whole game with Doc Oc unlike this one. I also didn't say the story here was bad. Just that bad decisions were made in it.

Also, it isn't that the game is worse than the other 2. It's just not better than the other 2. There really is no improvement here over the others besides traversal mechanics.

Also "after everything there's nothing to do" is a perfectly legit complaint because they decided not to include new game + on launch. And if you read my point actually you'd know I was talking about the city feeling dead and not the lack of activities.

And if that us the case with wolverine and daredevil they need to tell us. They can't have these heroes here without giving us an explanation why they're leaving everything to Peter
