Random power gain in BGs.

I'm missing something most likely but three times now, defenders have gotten a ton of power for seemingly no reason and instantly launched their sp3 on me. The first was mangog which was at 0 power then jumped to full right away. I attributed that to some mystic dispersion interaction. But then I had it happen with Nick fury and gambit where I was trying to bait their sp2. No hits, we're both just blocking and they gain power and kill me. Is there a mastery that does this or what am I missing?

Before you fight the defender, you can check which abilities are active

It’s from Prey on the Weak. I actually made this same mistake early in the season thinking only tactic defenders gained power but no, they just apply placebos. Any regular buffs from you champs’ abilities will give them power.
As far as mangog going from 0 bars to 3, unless you had a ton of buffs expiring and they run 5/5 md I’m honestly not sure what happened.

Yeah that was weird. And 2% per buff seems like nothing but I wasn't paying attention to how many buffs I had. But seems off. Sometimes though that's all they'd need. Because they sit on their sp2 for a whole minute. But that's another issue... Lol

The original post about S12 nodes said it would be Prey on the Weak-3, but it's Prey on the Weak-2 in-game. They should be gaining even more power

Yeah the node would stack with md so if they had 5/5 it’d be 14% power per buff. That’d still take 7-8 buffs to gain 3 bars of power tho.

Yeah the mangog fight was a long time ago so I forget the details other than I was waiting out his enrage when he suddenly gained three bars. The other two were recent and I was just trying to bait sp2s. Does dexterity replace itself when you do it multiple times without using it and if so, does that count as one expiring?
