Splendid utility. Mediocre damage. If you keep that in mind, you won’t be disappointed.

Great synergy for CAIW. Slap on a skill champ (bonus points for falcon but any will work), and go wreck some faces. Adding a stagger to CAIW + eating debuffs = beast.

But yeah he definitely struggles to do enough damage. He usually sits there while CAIW and the skill champ do all the work unless he has the right matchup.

He needs the synergy and dupe to be useful.

I find him too finicky to really enjoy. There's a lot to love about his kit because he has a ton of utility, but there are a lot of things to keep in mind when you play him. He's got the lock-on timer that you need to keep track of (especially if you're fighting a Miss champion) and you also need to keep your eyes on his Bulwark buff since you lose a ton of utility if it ever falls off. In my opinion, his damage is not good enough for how stressful his playstyle is.

That said, he's a defensive beast. He can auto-block for days, especially against mutants with prowess. That saved me time and time again when I was still using him. It's also SUPER annoying to go up against in BG if you don't have a good counter.

I love playing him but ya the time it takes is too long so he isnt viable for competitve gameplay.

That being said, he is quite an annoying defender in battlegrounds. Its difficult to bring him down in the given time. I would suggest levelling him up and drafting him there. Lots of people underestimate his defensive potential in a timed format.

Does he need to be awaken to be a good defender?

I have him from the selector. He can block unblockable and non contact attacks. That's best utility. He can counter almost all mutants. Damage is sufficient for BG.

No. He's like Domino that way - even Unawakened, he's got plenty of abilities that make him a tricky defender; but the Awakened ability is a big boost on defense.

In CapSam's case, being able to inflict those big-burst SP2 ruptures through block is something you really have to watch out for and waste time playing around.

I'd disagree that he's no good for 'competitive' gameplay: he's useable (if not great) on Attack. He's obviously not the fastest BG attacker, but is tanky/defensive enough to finish with 99% health; so he can win matches, since they changed the scoring. And Alliance War is competitive, but he's not against the clock there, so his lower damage is less of an issue.
