Hey fellow summoners, some might remember me as the crazy Groot guy, but this isn't about the Tree. The champion of the hour is the first iteration of the Contest's Mutant Hunting Machine: Sentinel
The purpose of this writeup is to highlight what this champion brings to the modern Contest, both as an attacker and defender, why I took this champion up(aside from being my secondary in UvMC3 way back then) and to give insight on if the 1.0 Mark Iso model needs a buff. Without further ado, let us begin.
As you can see, Sentinel was not built for speed. His main draw as an attacker isn't so much his ability to deal damage, but rather how much he can take(I ate 2 Sp3s that match). Sentinel in modes such as Battlegrounds hit the limit of what Sentinel's arsenal can manage, so where does he shine best then? The answer to that is in questing, as he has both the longevity and debuff versatility to make back to back fights easier to manage. His damage at full ramp is reliable and that is where my interests lie. To put things earnestly, Sentinel is a champ I take in when I need a job done and to that, he does not fail. Moving forward to the aspect he shines most, is...
Sentinel boasts some of the best stats as a defender, having critical resistance, high armor, power bar refunds and the slept on aspect of making power control borderline useless against him. In battlegrounds and alliance war he has more than enough stalling power to make anyone wary of facing him and it means he has the potential to be a prominent dual threat 9 times our of 10. On top of this, unless your name is Magneto, he makes mutants struggle to get him down efficiently and that has always been the case since his release. All things considered, it has been only a month since I've had Sentinel, so there are many matchups that need more review but until then these are my thoughts on how he could be improved.
-Make his base charge gain go from 4 to 6
-Increase the base durations of his debuffs by between 3 to 6 seconds, mainly his DoTs and his Healblock
-Give him energy resistance scaling with Analysis to be better equip for champions like Havok and Bishop
-And lastly give the Armor Break on his Sp1 a 100% chance to apply to give him alternative way to deal damage.
Hope you all enjoyed this quick write up and insight into our first rendition of the Mutant Hunting Machine we have. Until then, ciao!

As an Attacker
Back in 2018, Sentinel was released in a time where Mutants weren't the hallmark of good defenders and for the ones that were, being Iceman, Emma Frost and later to 2021 Apocalypse, Havok, Mr Sinister, Storm X, Bishop and Kitty Pryde. In that list, Sentinel has a poor matchup against all of them and that is where his lack of usage stems from. Despite that, Sentinel as an attacker is as a steady but surefire DoT attacker and really shines in metas where you can capitalize it.As you can see, Sentinel was not built for speed. His main draw as an attacker isn't so much his ability to deal damage, but rather how much he can take(I ate 2 Sp3s that match). Does he need buff?
In short summary, yes he does, but not by much. Much of the 1.0 Mark Iso's issues stem from his lack of offensive pressure and all of that can be alleviated by simple tuneups that can go a long way. Such tuneups are as follows:-Make his base charge gain go from 4 to 6
-Increase the base durations of his debuffs by between 3 to 6 seconds, mainly his DoTs and his Healblock
-Give him energy resistance scaling with Analysis to be better equip for champions like Havok and Bishop
-And lastly give the Armor Break on his Sp1 a 100% chance to apply to give him alternative way to deal damage.

But I think Psycho man can take him easily and power control him very well, after he hits 100 analysis. The Grandmaster did use various other Sentinels in his reign, loaded with different iso-8 I presume, could be cool to see them someday... like the Deathless chase.
I hope when Bastion comes out, his pre fight abillity will make Sentinel much better, and he will have a super great synergy to combine that with, just like Storm pre buff and Apoc for example
I explored v3 with a 4* sentinel.
