Intercepting black cat medium with sp1

So I sometimes call in a special attack halfway into attacks, e.g Medium and Heavy.

Problem:

For some reason, calling a Special 1 halfway into a medium attack, gave a Hercules enough mini-seconds to put up his block?

The fudge?
