Does the AW matching system work well?

I played in Tier 1 War.
In the last 9 matches, the alliances we faced were mostly 100-200 points higher in war rating than ours.
We got 4 wins and 5 losses, and now we have a war rating that is 58 points higher than at the beginning of the season.
Is that reasonable?
