Outdated content and how to improve it

There’s a lot of content in the contest which feels outdated. Rewards aren’t good enough or level of effort is too high, there’s many reasons content can become dated or irrelevant. In this thread I will give my suggestions but I would also like to hear the thoughts of others, and this isn’t just limited to quests or game modes, but also events which I will discuss as well.

Arenas

Now arenas are definitely dated. Not irrelevant at all, simply dated.

Firstly on champion arenas, unless you have a massive roster it’s almost futile to grind for the top champs, and by massive i mean well over 5 million base hero rating whales. Which is a shame as many of these players will already be spending on bundles etc, meaning they end up with 2 or 3 versions of the champion simply because they didn’t want to use sig stones, whilst the average joe player has to wait months to enjoy the higher rarity versions. How I would change this is by changing the rewards scheme.

Top 500: 7* version
Top 1500: 2 x 6* version
1-2%: 6* version

New top milestone of 15 million which includes the 5* version.

This way the top top players can try contest for the 7* version, a lot more players get access to the 6* version, but also to get an awakened version one would only have to grind once out of the 2 arena cycle.

I don’t think this should be implemented for the basic arenas, instead I think the 6* boundary should be reduced to the top 1500. This will then allow the basic arena to be used to push more meta relevant champions (those needed for monthly challenges, your hercs and kitties etc) in order to remain a relevant piece of content and a “reliable” way for summoners to pick up highly sought after champions.

Next up on the arena chopping block are the crystal and catalyst arenas. The way myself and many others have been pushing for these to change is by simply adding in higher rarity crystals and catalysts, your 7* shards, 6* crystals, T6B and T3A for example. Not rocket science, the arenas are simply outdated offering incredibly low rewards even at the highest ranks.

Daily quests

Daily quests suffer from similar problems to the crystal and catalyst arenas. The Apothecary was a great introduction and the Auto-complete feature is a great help. However the top reward for completing the highest difficulty of basic catalyst daily quest is one fifth of a T4B. For reference i can buy 2 whole catalysts for 40 glory, why would I ever bother with this quest.

The “fix” to this problem is to introduce higher rarities of catalyst to the quests. An offering for T5B or T5CC would be great, make it progression locked (T5B for Cav players and T5CC for thronebreakers) and you can balance it out. It doesn’t have to be whole catalyst selectors, maybe a quarter or even less, but just something to breathe life into this cobweb ridden corner of the contest would be great.

Back issues/Variants

Under its hilariously labelled tab lies an area of the contest untouched by many for eons. The back issues. Simply put the rewards are bad. The earlier variants feature 5* crystals and rank up resources, and despite a smattering of gold for complete exploration of Ultrons assault once receives 2250 6* shards. Not even 1000 battlegrounds tokens and I’ve got that, I mean if you used the units you got from the quest you could buy 5k 6* shards from the infamously bad unit offers currently in the store.

What would I do the breathe life into these quests?

Well we’re still missing an X men themed variant. The mutant class is a class which seems to be on the rise with new additions, after its fall from grace throughout 2023. So this variant would bring some relevance back to some of the more unique champions in the contest.

Rewards wise I’d be giving out 7* shards, 6* relics and 7* 1-2 6* R5 level resources. Add in a few million gold, ascension dust maybe a deathless piece and other goodies you’ve got a really solid rewards pool. Now I know what you’re thinking “nah that’s way too much, variant content is meant to be restricted but still easily completeable” and to that I would say 2 things

1. Act 8 was a cakewalk yet gives some of the best rewards in the game
2. That’s not all she wrote…

In order to gain access to the X-men variant one will need 8 keys. One of these keys is found in the completion rewards of every variant difficulty back issue (See where I’m going here). This would mean that in order to access these high level and relevant rewards summoners would have to play through at least once each variant quest. Giving a key for exploration seems like too much, it would take hours upon hours, countless rank ups, and disincentivise a lot of players from getting involved. But making summoners complete each variant can make the content relevant and sought after again.

Special quests

Now in the special quests tab there is a lot of content which is more or less untouched by most summoners. For example the Abyss, the rewards for the abyss basically match up to what most summoners get every month through side quests, the only “rare” reward is the abyss nexus 6* crystal, but even then how many of them have i opened despite never completing the abyss? It’s a lot. How would I change it? There’s not really much to be done now, but I think the necropolis got it right when adding in 6 and 7 star maestro. I still plan on exploring the labyrinth for the 5* ultron, and I think putting exclusive champions in Everest content ensures it remains relevant in the long run.

Events and objectives

The elephant in the room here are the solo crystal shards, and mainly the solo crystals. Summoners have million of these shards and nowhere to really put them. The ISO and gold crystals are a disaster. Really we need a new proper solo crystal which contains higher rarity arena boosts, sig stones, awakening gems and catalysts. Make them worth something at least.

Outside of that the introduction of some relic rewards to events like level up and hero use is fun, they remain a great way of sourcing revives and units, i don’t think the milestones themselves need to be drastically changed at all.

Unlike the 24h solo events the season long alliance war solo event really does need some work. The boosts and potions are nice, especially since the changes made to potions in AW. But the shards and currencies are pathetic. 115k gold is nothing, maybe a couple levels for a 6 or 7 star champ that’s it. Make that more in the region of 500k to a million then we’re talking. 5* shards? Really? 30k locality again is nothing, you make 3 times that for one war victory, increasing that to around 200k would be much nicer. And the 2.5k mythic crystal shards seems like a waste of a milestone. 2k 6* is nothing, we get twice that for exploring the side quest, oh wait no, we get twice that amount of 7* shards for exploring the side quest! Now I know that the objective is not progression locked, but why not? Most of the other solo objectives are entirely based on progression so why not these war rewards. I know this objective isn’t exactly a priority point for the contest, but it’s still funny to see every season popping up.

Final thoughts

For the most part there is a lot to do in the contest, but that doesn’t mean game modes or quests should be left behind. Battlegrounds seems to be dominating the contest at the moment with a lot of other modes receiving a back seat position. Now I understand kabam doesn’t have unlimited manpower and needs to ensure that they can keep on top of their regular monthly schedules. But I think reworks to arenas, variants and solo objectives are sorely needed and could be very positive steps in fleshing out the game without simply adding more limited time events that need to be done within 2 weeks or you lose out on great rewards (looking at you AW showcase).

    maybe a few 7 star shard wouldn’t be bad but definitely not a feature 7 star.
