AW question

Two wars in a row we’ve had some of our alliance members defenders removed from one bg on day one and then had some removed from a different bg on the second day. I’m just wondering why? Hopefully someone on the game team can explain why this is happening. No one that I know of had gotten a notification in game that our tier had changed. The leader nor myself has touched the difficulty level. I’m not sure if this has been addressed previously? I have not been following in forums for a long time.
