Killmonger's Indestructible Charges

I was testing out the way Killmonger's indestructible charges work and got confused by some interactions. For instance, when exploding the Hood's bullets while indestructibles are up, the energy burst damage on Killmonger is prevented. However, when hitting him with Nova's medium attacks, the same burst of energy damage bypasses the indestructibles charges. Is this a bug? If yes, which interaction is intended?
