Is Serpent bugged or is there an interaction I'm misunderstanding?

Going through EQ 3.1, I was using my Sig 200 Serpent against Hulk, misjudged an intercept and ate an SP2. He has 2 persistent charges, but instead of gaining Death Immunity he just died, and it still says I have 2 charges of Dread.


Is there any reason aside from being bugged that it would fail?

    The only thing I can think of is a bug in the order of operation. The SP2 took him to 1%, then before the immunity populated the secondary damage from the SP2 killed him. It shouldn't work like that, but that is the only option I see as possibly being what happened.
