The Battlerealm Saga (Phase 1)

To celebrate MCOC's 10th anniversary, I've decided to look back upon the past 10 years worth of champions and stories, and construct an entire MCU-esque saga based around them. This saga will feature 10 years worth of content that follows a similar structure to the original MCU, but a lot of the story beats and characters will be entirely different. This is a standalone story, meaning it doesn't connect to the wider MCU at all, and no characters will be making the jump from the MCU to the BCU (Battlerealm Cinematic Universe). I'll try my best to follow the main story and plot of MCOC in this Saga, but I will take some creative liberties when necessary. And finally, I'll also only be adapting the story of MCOC, so characters and storylines from Realm Of Champions will unfortunately not be appearing in this Saga. Now, with all that out of the way, let's begin, shall we?

Our BCU will be structured as follows:
Phase 1: Rise To The Contest (Covers content from Act 1-2)
Phase 2: Titan's Wrath (Covers content from Act 3-4)
Phase 3: Reign Of The Elders (Covers content from Act 5-6)
Phase 4: Darkest Dawn (Covers content from Act 7-8)
Note: I will not be covering the story of Act 9 in the BCU, as the story is still incomplete.

This project will be split into 4 parts, with one thread being created for each Phase. Without further ado, here is the film slate for Phase 1.

Summoner
This is the first project of the BCU, and starts with the Summoner being mysteriously transported to the Battlerealm. The concept of the Battlerealm and ISO-8 are introduced, and the Summoner is pitted against Kang the Conqueror by a mysterious character only known as The Collector, for an artifact called the ISO-Sphere. While Kang is a villainous character who only wants the Sphere to grow his own power and command the Battlerealm, the Summoner is a reluctant hero, whose hand has been forced to play in the Collector's twisted game. Throughout the story, the contrast between Kang and the Summoner is established, with Kang regarding his Champions as little more than means to an end and treating them with cruelty and spite, while the Summoner develops from someone who's only motivated by the desire for the power of the ISO-Sphere, to someone who has developed friendships with and genuinely cares for his Champions. Captain America is introduced in this film as an ally to the Summoner and acts as both a mentor and a friend. Hulk, Iron Fist and Angela are freed from Kang's control, and the final battle of the film is against a mind-controlled Tony Stark. While Stark is seemingly fatally wounded, a post-credits scene reveals that he was freed from Kang's control and was being kept alive by The Collector, who then proposes that he and the other heroes join forces in the fight against Kang, similar to Nick Fury's Iron Man post-credits scene. He then walks away with a smile, knowing the stakes are about to get even higher.

The Incredible Hulk
This film is pretty much the exact same as the MCU's version, and establishes Bruce Banner's tragic backstory, as well as his rivalry with Emil Blonsky. The film ends with both of them being transported to the Battlerealm, where they are both sealed into crystals and granted to Kang.

Iron Man
"Iron Man" is fully set in the Battlerealm, and follows up with Tony Stark after the events of "Summoner". It explores Tony's guilt over the actions he performed while under Kang's control, and his battles against the trauma of his failures. His character arc in this film is centered on redeeming himself and his actions, which he intends to do by uncovering a conspiracy involving the creation of the malevolent AI Ultron (created by Kang in this continuity). With a newly repaired suit from The Collector, Tony joins forces with Iron Fist to take down Ultron. Along the way we are also introduced to a secret underground ISO-8 smuggling operation involving Adaptoids, which will be important in later BCU projects. The film ends with Ultron seemingly defeated. However, he will become more important later on...

Angela
This film serves as a substitute for "Thor", and follows up with the titular character following her freedom from Kang's control. Angela's arc in this film involves her transitioning from a damaged person who's bloodthirsty and yearning for revenge against Kang, into a hero who genuinely cares for her cause. After witnessing all the crime that's prevalent throughout the cities in the Battlerealm, she discovers a secret ISO-8 smuggling operation that's run by Loki. However, the God Of Mischief always has a few tricks up his sleeve, as he reveals that he had captured his own brother, Thor, and was supercharging him with ISO-8 in the hopes of using him as a bomb to destroy the World Tree. Learning of this, Angela hastily retreats to The Collector's vault, where she frees Spiderman. The two of them manage to free Thor and destroy Loki's entire stash of ISO-8. However, Loki seemingly dies in the ensuing explosion. The film ends with The Collector, who after learning of the ISO-8 bust, frees Wolverine from his crystal and sends him after the heroes.

Captain America: The First Avenger
This film follows Captain America in his efforts to fight against Kang, as he is planning a devastating attack on Kang's crystal stockpile to free a large portion of Kang's champions from his control. However, he is diverted away from this when he receives a tip from The Collector that Kang was seemingly creating an entire army from ISO-8. This leads Steve to an Adaptoid factory run by the Red Skull, who, unlike the heroes in Kang's collection, serves him willingly. However, because of the ISO-8 bust caused by Angela, the factory is temporarily shut down, which gives Cap the opportunity to enlist help and prepare. He hires a mercenary by the name of Natasha Romanoff, aka the Black Widow, and the two of them sneak their way through the factory and fight through waves of Adaptoids before shutting it down. The final battle takes place inside the collapsing factory, as Steve takes on the Red Skull, who has gained a massive power-up from the Cosmic Cube. Cap takes advantage of this by overloading the Cube and Red Skull's suit, causing both of them to be teleported away.

The Avengers
This is the final film in Phase 1 of the BCU, and also the one that wraps the entire Phase up in a big crossover event. The stakes are higher than ever, as The Collector frees the Mad Titan himself from his crystal, and grants him to Kang in an attempt to up the ante and escalate the conflict. However, through his sheer willpower and mental strength, he manages to resist Kang's control and, seeing Kang's arrogance and hubris as a weakness, he forms an alliance with the Summoner under the pretense of saving the Battlerealm from Kang's wrath if he gains control of the ISO-Sphere. Seeing that Kang might pose a real danger to his rule over the Battlerealm, the Collector tells The Summoner to recruit a team of heroes, including Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, Iron Fist, Wolverine, Angela and Spiderman, as well as Thanos. However, the hero's paranoia and clashing ideologies put them at odds with one another, which culminates with a full on brawl. This attracts the attention of nearby Adaptoids in the area, who are swiftly discovered and killed, but not before killing Danny Rand amidst the chaos. This serves as the catalyst that brings the Avengers together, much like how Phil Coulson's death brought them together in the real MCU. This happens just in time as Kang stages a full-on assault on the Collector's vault and attempts to take the ISO-Sphere by force. He brings with him a formidable army consisting of hordes of Adaptoids, who substitute the Chitauri, as well as the villains Electro and the Abomination, who have been freed from their crystals. This culminates in a climactic final battle at the vault, where Thanos, Thor and the Summoner go after Kang, Spiderman and Black Widow take down Electro, the Hulk dukes it out with the Abomination, and the remaining heroes hold the line against the Adaptoid army. As the heroes close in on Kang, he realizes that his defeat is imminent, and in a final act of hatred and spite, he activates his Time Chair's self-destruct protocol. In an act of self-sacrifice akin to the real life Avengers movie, Iron Man chooses to sacrifice himself, and flies both him and Kang into the dark void of space, where no one is in harm's way when the Time Chair detonates. Luckily, Iron Man manages to survive the ordeal like he did in the MCU, and there is a post-credits scene which shows The Collector reporting these recent events to the Maestro, similar to how Thanos was informed of Loki's defeat in the MCU. The scene ends with The Maestro smiling into the camera, as it slowly pans out to reveal dozens of hero's weapons and armor laying at his feet.

And that is Phase 1 of the BCU complete. If you guys have any suggestions for future phases of the BCU, or how this phase could be improved, feel free to let me know!
