Rng, maybe slight critical resistance from the defender, or your champ just has a low crit rate

yeah, without any other details, such as who you were using, who the defender was, rarity and ranks, stat focus if they are a 7*, nobody can give you a definitive answer

Some champions and nodes, prevent you from critting at all. Man Thing for example prevents incoming crits. Guilly 2099 prevent outgoing crits. There are billions of matchups and if would could provide further description or images it would be easier to pinpoint your issue
