How the heck do you get Nightcrawler to change to Swashbuckler?

I mean, I know HOW. But I mean like....how?

Ever since his rework, as soon as he dodges back and blocks, even if you immediately attack his block, the timer goes away and he stops "trying" to change forms. Even the usual trick of whiffing an attack when he dodges back (which normally makes the AI block for extra long), it doesn't work the way it supposed to.

So, aside from Slow, how are you supposed to stop him from evading if you can't properly change his forms?

Yeah before the buff it was already hard enough, now it's quite impossible, the AI blocks and almost immediately opens and blocks again just to make sure that timing doesn't trigger and switch modes
