Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you can fully explore two difficulties in the side quest, if you want to.
Although you'll need to take the side gate a couple of times, if you're also running the 'kill the boss 4 times on Threat level 5' mission.
Actually, I think it may be better than that.
We have 4 Ashen Icons per week, over 5 weeks. After the boss in each Threat Level, we can choose to go through the gate for 1 Ashen Icon. Each Threat Level has the same amount of Mysterium (3375 x2).
There is Tier 1 Primordial Dust in Threat Levels 2 (10) and 3 (20) for exploration.
I think this means Valiants can explore 4 Threat Levels per week, and after 5 weeks net 150 total Tier 1 Dust.
It's a trade off for a lesser number of Phoenix Feather Crystal Shards (imo: whatever), and you have to run Threat Level 5 three times without going through the Gate at the end to get the "Complete 4 Times" rewards. BUT, this may be the trade off I've been after.
