Do Not Go Gentle…

If you cannot laugh at yourself, you don’t deserve to laugh at anyone else. And I am laughing at myself.

After a fun Ordeal, the Titan continues to torture me and demonstrates the faux “high value” it carries in the game.

I am in all seriousness taking Nefaria and maxing him—out of nothing more than spite at the hecklers and hooligans who designed Gentle.

Will he be buffed? Hopefully, when the next buff cadence rolls around sometime in 2030. By then, I should be able to take Gentle and my multi-duped Patriot and rock out in Realm of Legends.

You must prepare for Gentle’s buff in 2030 like I have prepared for Patriots buff. I took Patriot to 7* R3 sig 200 so that when he is finally buffed in 2052, I can continue to forget he exists whilst I use my 11* sig 200 Naruto in Act 17.2.

That’s probably truer than you know.

I understand top tier AW often uses Gentle for Bullseye bosses, and that’s great.

I’m an AW slouch and have multiple Bullseye counters. Also, given the way Titans treat me, I feel confident Gentle will find his way back to me again. And perhaps again and again. After all, he’s in there for nearly a year.

The Titan's "the faux “high value”" is really just a matter of RNG, which becomes harder to win against the more Titans you've already opened previously.
For example, I don't have Enchantress or Nefaria, so that Titan nexus you got would've been great for me.

Anyway, I was happy with most of my Titan pulls, and they were high value for me.
I guess it just depends on the individual player and what they got and who they already had on their roster.

That’s always the case, yes. “High value” really translates as “high value variability.”

I’m sitting on at least 10 pulls out of the current Titan I would consider somewhere between accretive and great. There are another 2-3 pulls I’d like to have simply for added sigs.

As I said, laughing at myself. And happy to have a max sig Nefaria regardless.

Potentially a good call—but it appears high sig is much needed for Gentle, no?

I’ve got another Titan just down the pipe, so we’ll see if he finds me again.

Seems to be a good AW option, but not for bgs and that’s okay, not every champ should be for bgs, he’s different and I do like that, but it could’ve been done better.

Why is everyone hating on Gentle?

Cuz he's not a bgs champ. But people fail to realisee he's not going to get rebalanced. At high rank, he'll kill with his sp2 do he won't take damage, or just use Light ender and throw a special to avoid damage back.

But honestly if he's gonna hurt himself the sp2 should do even more damage.

Someone sent me this.. I have been discussing gentle since the day I pulled him.

Nagase did exactly what content creators fails to see.
Says don't need recoils and went ahead doing every fight with recoils + 3 points on recoil, plus heavy boosted war fights.
That video is Not convincing at the least.

I have been testing him. And he is kinda crit reliant on a way. The 10% recoil depends on those crits, which he is seems to be missing occasionally.

Since he is not getting my sigs, it's hard to invest resources into him atm. But with sigs he can be more consistent and reliable.

He can put out flashy sp2 damage for videos at present.
People have been sending 30 second rol fight screenshots with their r3 and recoils.

I'm not disregarding his potential for now atleast.

I'll be honest, I didn't see the video. Just thought of providing some info incase it helped Zola.

I did pull Okoye though. I took her to r2 but the multi hit combo is kinda throwing me off.

My friend said the same thing lol. He was not the fan of her multiple hits.
I felt the same with Spiral, took alot of repeated fighting to get used to her multi hits.
You'll be fine, will need some getting used to.

I don't have her yet, saving the ordeal titan nexus to open after I open the few more titans. A lot of wants in this crystal. Playing the long game.

No, current ones are great and I need to dupe a lot of them.
Just saving the nexus to have a higher chance at getting what I want. I'll probably open next month, after atleast 2-3 more basic attempts.

It takes adjustment, but I took mine to R3 and awakened her with class gem.

She’s very good and fun to play once you acclimate to the extra hit. Dot queen for sure.

I hate champs who only work when punching down, unfortunately gentle is that kind of champ. He is good when punching down cause he can crit often, try punching up with him you will either lose health with recoil or you will lose on time.

Funnily, I have the opposite complaint.

I’m not a BG (nor AW) focused player, and I don’t like Gentle because his kit seems BG focused - ie. take out Bullseye, and have a huge SP2 that hopefully KOs before you reduce your health.

In general questing, his Utility is poor since it is situational and not something you can rely on for a whole path (I guess he can take Stunning Reflection, but otherwise it’s not like he is good for Mix Master in general). For damage and damage mitigations, there are plenty of nodes where you can’t do the 4th Light attack combo (Mix master when Gentle can’t activate his pursuit; use a special by a certain time or take damage, avoid placing debuffs, etc).

What is wrong with using recoils here? He is playing high tier war. You do everything you can do make your matchups as good for you as possible. This includes killing defenders faster, especially with a champ like Gentle who can handle the damage the masteries include.

Saying you don't need recoils and still using them is also not a problem. Just because he uses them for the fight does not mean they are required. Again, he is doing the best he can to perfect the matchup. By no means does that mean they are necessary for the champion/matchup

    Let's make one thing clear
If someone is showcasing a champion, And running recoils for every single fight, it's not a legit showcase.

2 war fights with recoils with 3 points in recoil, okay fine. But the whole video is with recoils with 3 points in recoil. He didn't use recoils for his other showcases. But he had to use them for this champion.
Less than 0.1% players play in top 20 master wars. Not eveyeone run recoils. I don't have access to CCP, you guys do, oherwise I'll test him myself.

Sorry @DrZola - I had a similar quality regular nexus yesterday after wrapping up Ordeal.

I’ll admit I’m debating whether to open my Ordeal Titan Nexus now vs. hold it and after seeing yours and others from Ordeal has me leaning towards holding it.

My Titan luck reverted a bit to my old streak - I got another dup on my BRB (sig 80 at this point) and gentle from my basics. My Epoch titan was the exception and got me Okoye, then I used class gems to awaken Okoye and Dazzler since I didn’t plan to open more titans. Probably should have waited to awaken them and maybe opened the Titan.

Now, however I’m looking at a 3 month wait till the next Titan update, and I’m looking at dups I could use on Hit Monkey, Shathra, and even Gentle. Wouldn’t mind pulling Zola. Maybe Spidey Supreme? Maybe Enchantress (although I already have a 6* R5A Max sig who fills the ‘get banned’ role). So, 5 or 6 good options out of 18. The odds say I should wait, but 3 months is a long time.

Ok, now I will make something clear.

Who is to say this is a champion showcase? All I see is a creator showing off some alliance war fights he took, and then adding some questing content for video length, and so he could talk more. I don't think the questing fights were used necessarily to sell you.

What do you want a top tier war player to do in this situation? Not boost? Not run masteries that could change the outcome of the war? (Yes, these things happen at this level)

Now I could be entirely wrong here, but I do not think that he is using the fights after the war ones specifically to show off Gentle's strengths. I do think the extra clips were there to add time, and because they were easy fights to get. He is a creator who will likely show off more impressive things related to Gentle's kit in other videos. Maybe he just wanted to show off Gentle's max damage? Not because the champion has to have them, but because that is what he wanted to show. I don't think he HAD to use them at all. He chose to, because that is what he wanted his video to show. This paragraph is entirely speculation, so I won't discredit you here.

I don't have CCP either. I don't have a gentle to test. But by watching this, I am not discrediting anything Gentle did in those war fights due to boosting or masteries. All I see is a player doing what he is supposed to do. After that, it is left to viewer interpretation. We watched the same video, but did not learn from it in the same ways.

I hope you come to like the champion more, I really do. But do not invalidate what he did, just because he did what a war player is supposed to do

  • SirGamesBondSirGamesBond Member Posts: 6,430 ★★★★★
The thing with recoil videos is you can't judge a champ while max boosted peak damage.
The title of those videos are different.
I wouldve said nothing if that was just a war video.
It was not. It's a new champ in a titan pool.

What I have been testing and what the video showcased, doesn't align.

Never trust recoil videos, from anyone, creator or not. Results are not ideal.
I'm going to invalidate this video if someone is going to use this to say that gentle is OP. It's impractical in most situations. Who runs around with 3 points in recoil?
If showcase is not the point, then the video is great as 'max boosted max damage gentle destroys content'

I have been discussing gentle rigorously with other players. Many of those have him r3. They do not agree with the this either. Some of them run recoils some doesnt. DLL does not agree with 5/5 ease of use given to gentle. The 4th light is not ideal in so many nodes or vs specific champs. Not finishing a combo is very important part of strategy, baiting specials and fight momentum.

I still haven't lost hope on him, and will see how he turns out with high sigs and in the game modes.
I took him r2. He's too new to be judged solely on 1 video where a new champ is given every benefit it can get.
