I absolutely love this new game mode, it's like card games like building strong deck, please make it permanent @Kabam

It’s stupid and pure RNG no skill it’s 5 card draw basically. If you can parry and 5 hit combo you will win the fights. Trying to get the best “hands” as you can before being forced into a boss fight is all RNG, so even if you do incredibly well in the fights whether or not you get points is up to chance. Unless KaBaam wants to finally admit they’re faking the RNG.

And this is the 2* event? Why 2* why not 1* honestly I’d rather this be a 7* event so we can see the damage random 7* do instead of useless crud MASSIVE LETDOWN. I hope they fire the good idea fairy who came up with this, or atleast gives them paid gambling counseling.
Mcoc always had a 2 stars event every year (even 1 star and 3 stars)

    Why not now?

Genuine question what am i missing with regards to this game mode? The fights have zero skill ask and this ultimately comes down to an online card game based on sheer luck.

So are we ultimately giving top rewards to however can spend the most energy/ units on energy opposed to awarding skill.

    Your not missing anything

You could be trying for any hand and get nothing, while someone could pull the best right off the bat

    Its’s all RNG
Yep they have essentially put poker into a game accessible to children. Would be interested to know if that’s a breach of T&Cs for the Apple and Android stores, given all the gambling apps are labelled 18+ and MCOC is 12+. Probably won’t be because money is not physically changing hands.

With all these new 5/5 defenders and creating a pity crystal system to grab them for £1000, coupled with sale after sales for exclusive champs. I am not surprised we now have MCOC poker.

It’s just a natural progression as we appear to be shifting further from a skill + spending ask to be at the top to just how deep are your pockets?

This mode makes no sense. It is a mixture of poker, Uno, and Marvel. There is a lot of content to play with than waste our time on something more. Kabam should be fixing bugs instead of wasting time on more game mods.

Will there be any sort of compensation for the affected players. It's been more than 3.5 hours where others are playing and we are still waiting for the fix?

MY early impressions of the game mode:

    - essentially just an RNG grind-fest with no requirement for player skill, roster development or champion knowledge (the 3 main pillars of this game)

    - we’re literally just playing 5 card draw poker. If I wanted to play that game I’d download an actual poker game. I don’t see what this has to do with MCOC

    - it’s a fairly polished game mode (early issues notwithstanding), and Kabam have clearly put a lot of time into this. I question why they’ve prioritised a new gamemode (we don’t really need) instead of addressing the plethora of issues plaguing the game.

This mode is just as boring as arena, and they're giving out 7* featured champs for ranked rewards? Why wasn't this added and tested in GC in BGs first? Just no, absolutely hate the game mode it's so boring.
  • AleorAleor Member Posts: 3,194 ★★★★★
I don't get the point of having fights. If it was just a fast way to burn energy you don't need, it would've been almost acceptable. As it is, I don't really see how this game mode could be any fun

Bro has never played poker before

If you believe that you’ve only played Texas hold em or haven’t played the new game mode lmao
My dude, not many people play 5 card draw.
Most people play Holdem, with some dabbling in Omaha.
There's a reason you only ever see other variants in the "mixed game" section during big tournaments.

As a lower level player, I like it it’s fun and interesting not to intense and not to boring, perfect to practice with champs I’ve always wanted to use

So we’re transforming this game into a gambling game now…next you can place bets with units and then give it time cash.

Talk about pushing gambling behaviours. So much for having a social conscience on the risks of gambling

This game has always had a gambling element to it...they're called featured crystals for 300 units per pop.

I haven't had the time (or rather, the energy refills) to really dig in deep, but I have one main complaint so far:

While I like the squad building aspect of it, I wish the fights themselves were more interesting. It feels like an MCOC take on poker, but without any other players around to actually play with. You're just sitting by yourself at the poker table, taking and discarding cards until you're done, hoping that you get a royal flush without ever actually needing it for anything. Even the specific champions that you pull are rather meaningless since it's only their non-intrinsic qualities - what set they're a part of and what number sequences they can be a part of - that really matter. As such, I don't find it to be a particularly compelling MCOC experience even if I do enjoy building the squad as such.

When I first heard you describe it, I thought the point was to build as good of a squad as possible to take down a difficult boss. However, that's not the case. There is a boss, yes, but there was never an actual need for me to build a better squad to deal with that boss. I could have solod the boss with basically any champion I first got. As such, it's hard to not be a little disappointed with how things turned out.

Hopefully you can reiterate upon it. I think it needs some work, but I also think there is something here that's actually pretty fun and does have potential.

It’s kinda boring. Do a couple 5 second fights swap **** people for other **** people and make bad hands. How exciting. I do however prefer this over bg so that’s a plus

first impression is that it's really fun and polished. kind of addictive, but we'll find out how fun it stays in several months.

i've been hearing comparisons to arena but they accomplish different things. this is replacing the SQ so it will have SQ rewards like mysterium and crumbs of the latest catalyst. arena is meant to have outdated rewards and is only a source for units so it's painful on purpose and mixing the two wouldn't make sense.

Not sure about everyone else but me personally, I compared it to arena in the sense that the fighting aspect just feels like a slog and it's boring. You're literally just fighting vanilla defenders with no nodes and anyone who knows how to parry and dex can do them.

I hit the 10k milestone on both of my accounts pretty quickly.
Won't be using up energy to go past that. I rather use it to autofight EQ for units.
At the end of the day, I'm glad that there is a new game mode that makes less advanced players feel like they're winning and competing for top rewards.
I'll still stick to competitive AW, BG, end-game content, and the like, but it's cool and smart of Kabam to offer stuff for as many types of players as possible.

arena and SQ share a similar grind but have different identities and do different things.

also, having a fight component does a few things:

    - maintains the identity of a SQ where we had to fight
    - most importantly it add more time to the mode which is fairer for everyone because it doesn't let spenders just spam the hell out of refills as much as they could if fights didn't exist
    - it lets kabam do different things with champions later on (i don't know what)

edit: also why are we asking for extra stuff like harder defenders and nodes?? like why do you want more work for nothing?? lol

it's there for filler aka time wasting (at the moment). adding more time wasting is so pointless lol. why make it MORE grindy??

Because they literally said they're trying to make SQ not as stale and repetitive, how is this not stale and repetitive? At least throwing some nodes in there would've made it more interesting, I feel like I'm playing arena.
