Out of all of the battlegrounds complaint posts, this is the only one I respect and somewhat agree with. I’m in a very similar account situation as you. Yes, it does feel a little unfair. Yes it gets frustrating. But will it kill the game? No. This is actually what’s keeping the game alive. Without spenders, there is no MCOC. So I’ll deal with it and be occasionally frustrated, but I’ll also be happy that this game continually have new content because people are willing to pay to play it.
this is something i’ve also said before, i’m not downplaying people spending money to support the game, every game has big spenders. the only problem is that there are some things that are being added to the game too fast and too limited lol.
Somewhat agree with OP. I’m in Mysterium with 11 R4s, for context. I’m happy paying money for special edition champs like Dark Phoenix and I do think they should be useful in BGs to make them valuable. I’m very happy with my HT and RG but don’t think they should’ve been locked to spenders (maybe 20k units is ok, not 39k).
Completely disagree with anyone crying about matchmaking in GC. Level playing field there, stop asking for an easy ride.
I took a break for a year and have more R4s than some folks who’ve consistently placed master in AW and celestial in BGs.
Spending should be on limited edition variants of characters (Dark Phoenix, WWX, World Breaker Hulk?, white iron fist lol). Rank up materials should be available to everyone so people can keep up. Obviously some rank up materials need to be in offers but it is a bit ridiculous atm. And that’s coming from someone who buys all those offers so I stand to benefit.
this, it’s super frustrating but i’m not going to let anyone stop me from getting the rewards i want lol. just sucks the way you can complete the entire game but only have enough for like 4 ranks 4s.
By my estimate, you're like the 2367th person to post here on the forums about how you don't understand how a competition works and how BGs works.
by my estimate, it seems like it’s your job to live on this forum and white knight kabam under every single person’s opinion about the game, every hour of the day. it seems like you’re worthless.
I think the biggest problem for me is how rock-paper-scissorsy the mode has become. The defenders are so niche and difficult nowadays that they are pretty much impossible to beat... unless you have the one or two specific champs that hardcounter them. Then the round is an instant win.
And everyone runs like the same champs anyways. So now every match is just a test to see who gets the better draft. Of course that has always been present in some way but I feel like with how many defenders they keep pumping out it just gets more and more pronounced. The game feels like clash royale now where its all dependent on who has the counter. That works in CR cause CR matches are like 2 minutes and more fast paced but it feels kinda frustrating in the BGS format. Like its soooo fun just getting wiped by serpent and then having to sit and watch a timer count down for 90 seconds knowing you lost.
The current champ design philosophy just feels lame honestly. It just sucks trying to fight the meta defenders + nodes without the counter because u know u arent meant to win. And even when you do have the perfect counter its not that much more satisfying because its not really skill... its just you picked a champ who was designed to destroy the defender. I can't speak for everyone obviously but I really do think Kabam needs to reconsider their champion design philosophy just a bit in regards to Battlegrounds.
I think Bastion and Jack (and Okoye to a degree) are a step in the right direction. They are designed to counter certain matchups but are also generalist attacks that can handle a lot of stuff. If Kabam wants to make niche defenders at least make the attackers more generalists so that BGS isnt so rock-paper-scissors
Man what are you talking about? this type of design clearly is not a issue, limiting new attackers to mostly new defenders is not a bad design choice, making very wanted champions half decent counter to someone even tough that person already have counters is definitely not a problem (Seriously they shouldn't have made Maker a Onslaught counter)
Ngl I dont think we'll ever get a "good" meta. Kabam has released far too many defenders with very intricate kits that force a certain playstyle, to the point where any node combination just feels unfun to play against
The current GC one is quite fine actually. I think there's a pretty big difference between "this node will draw out your fight if you don't play around it" and "you will die for playing this node" metas. Electric defense meta was the latter.
Yeah this meta is somewhat decent but still has some unfun matchups with the typical defenders. For example with onslaught, you either have to dex his long special attacks which makes him Regen a ton or have to take it in block which gives tons of neuroshocks
If that’s an issue with Onslaught then bring heal blockers or high debuff champs (for despair) that still do him well, like Ironheart.

Worth more than your skills in BGs.
guarantee you don’t have more points than me, if you’re even in gc.

Of course there are champs that can still take the fight, but it relates back to my point about how new defenders tend to get supercharged by every node combo nowadays. Whereas in the past there was much more defender diversity in bgs, since most defender kits weren't as demanding. It feels like at times Kabam forgets that there are also nodes in the game to make it harder. and as a result, we get a bunch of overtuned defenders. The fact that serpent wasn't nerfed to the ground is proof of that imo, they literally gave him like every defensive ability in the game lmao

If the plan is to roll out a lot more rank 4s very soon, I’ve got no problem with the current speed. If they’re going to stay at this pace in content, I completely agree that the paid roll out is too fast.

Eh it’s not that bad . Sure sometimes I lose like five matches in a row against crazy account but then I get a couple of easy ones . If can be a bit annoying but I regularly make it GC.
no im talking about IN gc lol, i barely was able to get 115 points because i had to keep playing dudes like this who just ban the only rank 4s i have while they have like 13. some how i still win but its just insufferable to play against over and over.
this isn’t even nearly as bad as it gets.
You are IN gc? You want to play in the higher leagues but skip the top of the competition? What a dumb complaint lmfao I want to be the cream of the crop but I need training wheels.
competition? it’s just mostly a bunch of dudes who suck at the game with like 20 r4s, at this rate 8 stars will be released soon, it’s trash idc.
They suck but apparently you can't beat them which is why you're crying about it here.

yes if you lose to a guy like me with 3 rank 4s while you have 2 rows of them, you suck. it’s been a lot of that.

To tell you that you're wrong in what you're thinking. It's a competition, a concept you clearly don't understand. The higher you climb, the harder the competition is. Why should you get to face lesser competition than the bigger accounts for the same rewards?
Honestly if someone spends they’re gonna be way better. It’s not the spenders and whatever. It’s the gap and the way they cater towards spenders. They make brand new champs to be the needed “meta” champs. Lock them behind a paywall. When everything is pay pay pay be better it sucks. Restrictions unless you pay.

When your game is more basic than the UGG boot wearing customers at Starbucks, you have to rely on poop tier nodes to present a challenge. Not to mention it's the same booty juice nodes recycled over and over with no innovation.

here’s the thing, you’re confusing competition with an absurdly high paywall. its not about climbing harder, it's about access being sold. no matter how much someone grinds, they can't compete with wallets, not skill. that’s not “fair” competition, it's monetized gatekeeping.
people who pay should get perks, sure, but not to the point where no amount of effort can ever catch up. that’s not competition, that’s just selling power. there’s a line between rewarding support and making it nearly pointless to even try without paying. this game crossed it.

My only gripe is about the recent meta’s. The fights haven’t been fun and the outcome of a match seems to be affected much more than usual by the initial champ draft. No issues with people getting an advantage by spending, it keeps the lights on.

spending keeps the game going, of course, but it doesn’t justify the gap. after completing everything, you’re still capped at 4 MAYBE 5 rank 4s, while spenders can jump to 15-20. that’s not just progress, it’s a paid shortcut to an entirely different tier of play. the issue isn’t that spending exists, it’s how far it takes you compared to what the game actually lets you earn.
also, events being 39k unit milestones is just pure nonsense.

You can't spend money to be good in battlegrounds. Money doesn't make you have more skills. Money might buy a bigger roster, but money doesn't make you an expert on using all those champs you have.
You have to know which champs counter those defenders. You have to know the attackers rotations well to KO the defender quickly. Money doesn't buy that.
You can tell people that BGs is somehow a paywall, monetized gatekeeping, or whatever buzzword that makes you mad. Money can't make you good in battlegrounds. It doesn't win fights for you. You can't pay your way to wins. It's just an excuse because you've reached your skill ceiling.

you keep repeating “money doesn’t buy skill” like that’s the full story, but you’re ignoring the structure of the mode. battlegrounds isn’t a test of pure skill—it’s a draft-based, roster-dependent format where access determines options, and options shape outcomes.
yes, knowing rotations matters. yes, counters matter. but guess what—you need to actually own those champs to use them. and when spenders have 3x the ranked champs, exclusive meta defenders, and better everything, they’re not relying on just skill—they're relying on volume and variety to carry them. and recently with every event making the gap wider and wider, while regular people wait months for content.
you can’t pretend this is a level field when one side can always get 10/10 perfect drafts, and all the top counters—and the other can’t even build a FULL competitive deck after completing everything in the game 100% and anything new that comes out immediately. that’s not skill vs skill. that’s stacked odds. and calling it a “skill ceiling” just shows you aren’t even trying to use your brain.

Money may not buy skill, but I can tell you from experience that having a super stacked roster will give you a way higher chance of winning when the guy you're up against doesn't have a super stacked roster.
I've played my friend enough times to know this.
He's got a whole lot more skill than I do, and when he's on his main account and he do friendlies, it shows.
But bring his mini acct into the mix where my roster is stacked in comparison, even his skill can't overcome it alot of the time.
Skill only takes you so far unless the person you're against has zero skill. With that stacked roster.
The gap is real, and anybody with a super stacked roster any any skill at all is likely gonna win the match against a smaller account than theirs.
I have 4 r4's. Some of these guys have 10+. It's a big enough gap that skill doesn't always overcome it.

You can always count on him to defend kabam like his life depends on it. It's obvious this dude hasn't played any games outside of mcoc if he thinks money can't buy wins in BGs or that skill is what matters most. Pretty much everyone who defends BGs is either a spender or someone who only plays mobile games so they are already brainwashed into the p2w ecosystem.

I have no idea why are you having problems with BGs, it's completly fine
