Possible glitch with Modok in Expert Lab

Just ran into a situation fighting Modok in the Expert section(fought him several times in previous rounds without this happening)
I was using Magik and after approx. 1 1/2 to 2 minutes of fighting, Modok basically froze in the corner for a good 10 sec. Without making any movement at all.
I was able to move back and forth but he continued to stay stagnant.
What I believe caused him to "break out" of his trance was when I happened to throw a punch in mid screen. I say this because my previous actions during his "freeze" didn't include any attack input, just movement back and forth without getting too close to him.
Anyone else experience something similar, and is it possibly a normal occurrence?
