Should champions be able to increase their tier (star rank)?

Say, for example, you have a 2 star wolverine. You max it out, not only its rank/level but also it's signature ability. At this point you should be able to acquire another base level 2 star wolverine. Upon doing so you max that one out as well, including signature ability. Now you should be able to merge the 2 maxed out champions into 1 basic 3 star wolverine. This would not only allow the user the capability to obtain their favourite hero as a 5 star champion (eventually) but it would also be a long process requiring many resources, which would drive dollars to kabam. Win win as far as I see it.
