BPCW gains Armor Up even when Armor Shaterred? (MBJ Challenge)

I was fighting the final BPCW with Medusa and he started gaining armor ups even though she Armor Shattered him. I'm pretty sure this has never happened in all of my previous encounters with BPCW, and shouldn't because it's stated in Medusa's ability that opponents who are armor shattered can no longer gain additional armor ups.
