Game automatically place defenders

Just noticed that in aw I didn't place any defenders but in attack phase they had been automatically placed. Is this normal????

Anyone know if this is normal???

If you chose but didn't place your defence then the game will place them for you.
If you didn't even choose a defence then they won't be placed
