How old is too old (iPhone)

I've been playing on an android for almost 2 years now and have been thinking about getting an old iphone due to playing on my friends iphone a while back but I want to know if it will run the same with only wifi connected (because its basically just gonna be an ipod touch) I dont want to spend too much money on a phone that i'll only be using for champions. So whats the oldest iPhone I can get where the graphics still look good and it runs great but not break the bank. So far its looking like an Iphone 5s but I really dont know.

    I didnt have any probles with my 5c also was a goverment phone so also got free but screen now a days is so small i would go with 6+ at least

    I have an iPhone 7 and recently noticed it starting to lag a bit on occasion like my old iPad Air.

    I’d go newer than the 7.
