Enemy Special 3s

Are we supposed to be able to block/parry (aka, defend ourselves) after the enemy completes a special 3?
I have not been able to defend myself against any opponent after they land a special 3. I die every time to enemies in Alliance War and Alliance Quest. Special 3 takes half my health, then combo'd to death.
All I see are Hyperions and Mordos everywhere, and even Magiks and Juggs with MD. I thought the whole step forward by Kabam was to be able to see different champs all over the game and it is the exact opposite imo.
What do I have to bring in now? Hulkbusters and Rhinos to my attack teams? Regens don't proc anymore in tougher content because of challenger rating/diminishing returns/whatever you want to call it. So what is the point of bringing in Wolvies, X23s, etc. How many times does my X23 crit and she doesn't proc regen.
It is getting a little out of hand.
