I think the easiest way to aid the gold issue would be to create a 40 and 50% gold boost that players could exchange their experience boosts for. This could be open to all players or limited to lvl 60 players. It wouldn't destroy the games economy and it wouldn't full solve the problem, but it's a good step in the right direction.
