In all seriousness, there's no easy way to farm 5* shards that I'm aware of. In the year that I've been playing this game (technically only a few months, as I was hooked on Future Fight for a while), I've only ever gotten 3 5* hero crystals. Just play EQ's, bang out arenas when you have the time, and overall, just farm.
Other than that, you can do arenas... a lot... learn how make an infinite streak... complete 100% every event quest and history missions. This is just another way to say: "Devote your life to this game. Drop everything and play this game 24/7. No sleep. No kids. Just game." as pointed by @EnderDraco58 .
