I have an s8 and have had a great time so far. And I only run it on normal performance mode.
I have the s8+ and the game runs quite well, however, several updates ago kabam introduced a connection error glitch which is the bane of my life. Happens so often and fights or screens either take a long time to load or they dont load. The game is near unplayable.
I tested my connection and even changed isp to see if it was them.... but no. Its kabam.
I have heard from people that iPhone provides optimum performance. But I personally use a OnePlus 5T, which has a faster processor and loads the game quickly. Certain special effects are a bit lacking than iPhone, but nonetheless, it runs well.

Damn it even has a wide HD display! And that antenna must have the best wifi reception ever!
