If I join an alliance where war has been started but placement hasn't ended, will I be able to join said war?

    No, if the placement was already started you won't be able to help in defense or in attack phase.

    Does the same apply to alliance Quest? Like for the whole 5 days or just the one map that was started

    Alliance Quests have not started so you should be okay. But if you join after a map is started for the day you are excluded from only that day.

    If the AW battlegroup is not full (less than 10 players) when attack phase starts, you should be able to join in, unless there is an IG message saying otherwise.

    However, the rank rewards given out on victory is not available to new member in the alliance for 10 days.

    you wil get the war rewards Ther you dont need to be i. The ally for But only the AQ.

    That's incorrect. He can only join if there is a spot open in war and he joined prior to the initial search for an opponent. He will only get rewards if he participates in the war (placed for defense, attacking on offense, or does both).
