I know I'm going to get a boat load of flak for this, but someone has to be the bad guy. I'm a relatively newcomer to the game, but I'm well versed in the history of Kabam's nonsense throughout the years.
With the recent outage, we've all seen the huge outcry of players demanding compensation. However, I can't help but feel there is a very large sense of entitlement throughout the community. Let's attempt for a moment to focus on just the most recent emergency maintenance and nothing else. Regardless of what happened, or who's fault it was, the servers were down. Players around the world took to the forums, youtube, twitch, etc, and began demanding compensation for being unable to play the game because of emergency maintenance.
Do you know what Sony, Microsoft, Blizzard, or ANY other game developer offer their playerbase when unexpected emergency maintenance occurs? Absolutely nothing. On the super rare occasion that they do (Less than 1%) of the time, it's next to nothing. World of Warcraft is a game with a monthly subscription. You are paying for the right to play the game every month. Blizzard has had times in the past when maintenance went on for over 24 hours. The players were given nothing. No compensation. Their gametime was not extended. PSN goes out all the time, another monthly subscription service, and compensation is never given. As far as MCOC goes, you aren't forced to spend money. We all know the game is pay to win, I'm not disputing that. But regardless of how much or how little money you have actually spent on the game...when emergency maintenance occurs, Kabam doesn't owe us anything. IF they do decide to offer some type of compensation, than regardless of what it is, we should all be thankful.
Now, looking at the bigger picture...I know how Kabam has been lately. I think a big part of the problem, aside from the entitlement, is that players are seeing this latest issue which was the long downtime, and they are basically adding it onto the pile of nonsense that has been going on lately. So, every misstep Kabam takes now, players want compensation for it. Downtime, give us something. Nerf to a champion, rank down tickets.
I just think we all need to calm down and just be thankful if we get anything at all from Kabam. I've already seen them given compensation once since I started playing, and considering NO OTHER developer does that...I appreciated it. And this is not me brown nosing Kabam either. The lack of communication on upcoming changes, pay to win alliance wars(potions/revives even existing in them), decreasing reward across the boards for all parts of the game in an effort to get players to buy more units, poor champion design, I could go on all day. If we get compensation, great. If we don't, oh well. Personally, I'd rather not get any at all if it's just going to be some nonsense that gives a 2 star champion anyway. Just send us all a 5 star colossus and let's call it a day.
