Red Hulk/Masacre Synergy

The Playing with Fire synergy says Red Hulk starts off with 2 heat charges. An awakened red hulk starts the fight with 2 heat charges. Does this mean that the synergy is useless when you have an awakened red hulk or do you get 4 heat charges at the start of the fight?
