Awaken Howard the Duck or earn 500 four-star shards

I'm wondering f it's worth grinding in the 2nd arena just to awaken Howard The Duck. His description is ambiguous - he mashes buttons and sometimes this helps. Will awakening him make him a useful tech hero to have at 4* or am I better off earning 500 four-star shards?

    Every Basic comes with 5* Shards. Not from the Dup. From the Rank Rewards.

    Mine is awakened, and he is not bad. Sometimes his sig helps to survive. Sometimes to kill somebody. And if you take 500 4* shards you can take a spider-gwen! Or Luke. Or Fixit...

    Y'all know what I meant. If he went for the Dup it would come with the Shards from the Rank. Not from the Dup itself. Lol. I'm not new at this.
