Alliance help event deters helping

I hit "help" every time I see it. I usually max out my loyalty a couple hours after reset. Because of this, I can't contribute to the new alliance help event. So, should I not help anyone until the event starts? Does this seem like a good idea? Why not remove the restriction that prevents those who've maxed help to still participate?
