Sell and trade up items

I suggest it would be useful to be able to sell items and in doing so get the gold we currently do but get an item from the next tier? A bit like selling catalysts but applied to other items.
e.g. sell 10x Lvl1 health potions, get the gold and a Lvl2 potion.
e.g. sell 10x 2* signature stones, get the gold and a 3* signature stone.
This would help us manage better our inventories and reduce the times we need to search the stash and replace spent items. Also given we can only use so many items in a run of AQ or AW, being able to maximise the items we use would be very helpful.
