5* awakening gems

I have over 100 awakening gems of various kinds. Several 5* characters, and I'm unable to use them on my characters, I'm confused why? Any help would be appreciated.

I think you may have signature stones as opposed to awakening gems. They can only be used on duplicate/awakened champs.
