Quests reset without leaving?

I was just exploring 5.4.6. I ran out of energy but was one space away from an energy refill. So, I closed the app for a little bit until I had enough energy to move up to the next space. Now I opened it again and it reset as if I had never started. This is very frustrating as not only was I right at the portal to port to Ultron, but I had also had to use a Revive and some health pots. Has this happened to anyone else?
