Any tips on how to get 4 stars?

I'm a lvl 30 and only have 2 4* and have been playing about 3 1/2 months.
I feel like I should have more by now as most people have 4 - 7 4* and sometimes even more by this level.
Any tips on how to get some more? I really feel like I'm needing them.

    Join a good alliance, win alliance wars, completing act 3 gives you a crystal. And sometimes you get shards from the crystal shard crystal

    At that time I think I had just One shiny Black Bolt.

    You could get one 4* per week if you do it:
    - Grinding Arenas. Rank for shards in many Arenas.
    For example it could be more realistic and profitable if you grind for shards in 4* Basic AND 4* Feature (around 1.6 mil and 350k) that if you grind for the 4* Basic champ (3 mil to 6 mil). You can get 4* shards in the 3* Feature too.
    - And Joining an Alliance in tiers rewarded with 4* shards and do AW.

    You can win a couple more hundred shards from AW, Summoner Advancement, Duel Skirmish and Quest Completion if your Alliance scores high enough in those events.

    pay attention to the daily or 8 hour events to get units too.
