Mephisto better than Magik?

MephistoMephisto Member Posts: 522 ★★★
I feel Mephisto is better in terms of utility. He is immune to poison and incinerate. Heals 100% with persistent charges. Almost infinite power gain and good damage with his Aura of Incineration. But Magik is only power control. And champs can shrug off the power lock debuff. Is Magik losing her usage in the current game? Whom should I take to r4? Please suggest.

I really dont think i'll be getting Doom or Claire or SS soon. So i only have the option for these two.
I have MD at 4/5. But can Magik Map 4 in AQ? What about the bleed and poison paths in AW?

Entirely depends on the job. He doesn't have Power Control like she does. He's good though. One of my stand-bys.

He's especially useful for pesky Sigs like Regen that keep kicking in. For example, if you're stuck on a strong Boss in UC, his Soul Imprisonment prevents it from kicking in so you can whittle them down.

Some can shrug it off but she has drained them by then. Sp2 rinse and repeat and the opponent never gets to sp3

I have not yet duped her for that Limbo. @DNA3000 Great Explaination!

Magik has two triggers for Limbo. Limbo triggers during and lasts for the duration of all of her special attacks. This does not require awakening. Her signature ability causes Limbo to also be triggered whenever she gains an additional full bar of power. This one is less important as an attacker, and generally considered more useful as a defender, although you can use it on attack if you manage her power bar carefully.

@DNA3000 does her Sp1 remove all the buffs on opponents or only one?

Only one, SP3 removes all and increases damage.

Disagree. Both Morningstar and Warlock synergies increases damage during Limbo. The more you proc it, the higher your DPS.

Mephisto is not better than Magik. He hits rather soft, thus relying on his aura to compensate.

His nullify ability is strong, but limited. Besides the one at the start (and Hela synergy), he can only use one more unless you want to consume souls.

His SP3 is useless: he can only power drain once and has low damage.

In any fight where you need to shut down power and buffs consistently, Mephisto fails.

Duped or unduped magik is a beast all the way, when duped she is even better. Mephisto is good but he is no where near magik I know how limbo has saved me a ton of times and the power control is just too good. Against champs with plenty buffs her sp3 damage scales very high and if you have mystic dispersion she can cycle through sp3 which champs that have lots of buffs

Mephisto has more individual pieces of utility but magik’s power lock is insane, like namor has 1 big piece of utility that gives him more utility than 99% of champs

Mephisto only has infinite power gain if you manage to drain two bars of your opponents power on your first SP3, which can be tricky. If you do that, he can throw Specials with impunity; although using SP1s will reduce your regeneration and as you mentioned, the SP3 damage isn't good.

His damage is a lot lower; whilst Magik's is respectable (if dependent on crits). On the other hand, if you're questing with The Champion, that provides a decent boost to Mephisto's Attack. Magik can get really good special damage with Warlock and/or Morningstar synergies.

I'd agree with the majority view, Magik is better overall; although Mephisto does have his niche uses. I love using him on Freezerburn paths (you forgot to mention, he's also Coldsnap immune). And he wrecks opponents like Aarkus, Silver Surfer, Champion and CMM.

A few quirks I've noticed about Mephisto's Soul Imprisonment:
    • It doesn't actually prevent buffs activating: it reduces the ability accuracy of buffs activating by 100%.
    • It's therefore useless against Mordo, Old Man Logan, Sabertooth; or opponents on an Iron Will node.
    • Oddly it is effective against Red Skull, which it really shouldn't be, based on his abilities. It's also effective against both Thing and Angela (stops Thing's Unblockable buff) and opponents standing on a Mystic Ward node.
    • Because the buff never gets triggered, it doesn't benefit from Mystic Dispersion
    • It stops you stacking up Furies when your opponent is on an Icarus or Rising Sun node. Which I've found useful against Mojo and Man-Thing bosses in the last few months.
Most people would choose to take up Magik. But Mephisto has his uses, and some really good synergies; and if you really enjoy playing with him, then don't feel that you can't take him up. It's your game, play it the way you want to. 😉
