Question about Gambit’s new Omega Red ability

It says he utilizes kinetic energy which can’t be thorn-punished, but his first medium is a smack with his pole (and there are light attacks that hit with the pole as well). The second medium and heavy are those energized cards, which makes more sense.

So is there a slight animation change, is it just for second medium, heavies and L1/2, or is it just gonna be assumed he energized his pole for that first medium?
