Yellow jacket defender power sting without contact???????

So I was doing some AQ map 4, and using my initial regen champ to get the most health possible. went up against a duped YJ. fully evaded his sp1. but the power sting still went on me, then i got stunned. this continually happened while i was testing it. Kabam if you can do anything about this or if this is intended please respond back.
