Why are we being forced to do chores?

I'm just completely confused and lost as to why next months side quest is gated for only those that did the previous month's insulting joke of a 'side quest'?

This is something I've genuinely never seen before in MCOC, and I'm not even talking about the fact that you literally have to finish a laundry list of chores one month to play a large area of the game the next. This is literally the first time since I started playing that we just flat out did not get any kind of Side Quest for the month, and what we got instead just is not fun or intuitive in the slightest.

I mean I feel like it's called the "Marauder Mysteries" because they just stole the fun part out of the side event, and made it a mystery as to why anyone would want to go through and complete these bland objectives. The objectives are INCREDIBLY grindy, and really aren't that fun or unique either. Overall it just feels like a lot of boring work for what feels like miniscule rewards. I mean for completing 100 fights against 6* champs with special attacks as the final blow, you only get 1k 5* shards and 250 6* shards and small bits of rank up materials. It completely feels like were putting more effort into completing this quest than you guys had making it, and that's really messed up.

Obviously this wouldn't normally be a problem at all, though. Don't like/enjoy a side quest? Don't do it then! For some reason that formula changes this month though, and we're more or less being forced to do these tedious objectives if we want to do the side quest next month. Personally, I didn't even realize until today that you had to complete these chores just to do something next month when there usually isn't a requirement for me- I just wanted to skip this event and move on to the next, but sadly that's not an option. Now I might be forced to use resources throughout the week just so I can try to earn rewards next month.

I also wonder what's going to happen to summoners who will be starting the game next month, or those returning to the game from a hiatus- guess Kabam doesn't want them to be able to earn rewards next month.

The objectives last until the end of October, so if you don’t do them now then decide the side quest is worth it, you can still get access

Honestly I think it's because side quests are a dev work. Time spent making a monthly side quest, testing it, making sure rewards work and so on is time not spent on the parry/dex/lag issues. I can't imagine anyone at kabam was happy to give us a worksheet of objectives but if it meant even one more dev working on the control issues then it's worth it.

Then why is this a two month build up? Either I'd guess a product manager wanted to try something new, or it's a retention strategy. By having the two month build up you are subtlely getting users to commit to sticking it out for two months. That means two months of retention to get a fix in place, a patch, or just to diagnose the problem. From the recent bug update, it's clear they've been diving deep into getting the parry/dex issues fixed which makes me happy to do some mundane objectives if it means Sir Tapsalot and the dev team can get us a real fix.

I dunno man, I’ve only been back in the game for a week (off all this year), and I’m already done with the highest difficulty of them? It wasn’t that bad.

If you knew anything about dev, they are minimum 6-9 months out doing them, probably more. As was stated by another poster, if they took everyone off the dec team and put them on the nonexistent QA team, I doubt anyone would complain, just say, heck yeah, focus all efforts on fixing the persistent bugs.

This week's objectives should have been the benchmark.

Actually, the event the OP describes is not a side quest. There is not a side quest this month. Kabam explained this fact in the announcement.

The Solo Objectives are available til November 3. Anyone joining/returning in October can do all the September and October Solo Objectives, time permitting. Each player can choose a single difficulty level to complete. Nothing states all difficulties must be completed.

The community has shown that all objectives can be completed with autoplay. If an objective can't be completed with autoplay, perhaps the objective is too advanced for the player.

These "chores" requiring completion prior to access the next month objectives is the same formula for most game content. Example, we must complete chapter one to access chapter two.
