You could have done much worse. He has decent utility and can help to make some of your other champs (HE, BW) better. But for a first 6* at L30, the simplest answer is “yes.”
Ive read other threads on Red Mags but its clearly me not understand but he doesnt hit hard.
His Special Attacks hit very hard. They especially hit bleed-immune metals champions very hard. That's mostly robots, but also champs like Morningstar and Silver Centurion.
He relies on building Prowess to enhance his Special Attacks. His SP2 hits pretty hard; but most people save power for his SP3, to one-shot the opponent:
You'll want to Parry, then charge his Heavy Attack to generate extra Prowess, releasing at the last second. Try to have 15-30 stacks of Prowess to enhance your SP3 Your SP3 will inflict one stack of bleed per stack of Prowess. That's potentially a lot of bleed damage; much increased if they're #metal
If they're bleed immune then you do a lot less damage unless they're also #metal, which quite a lot of bleed-immune champions are. Instead of bleeding, these opponents suffer a stack of Armour Break for every Prowess. This becomes a fairly huge stack of Armour reduction and you'll see some phenomenal damage against these opponents. The only real exceptions are Colossus and Nimrod; who are effectively immune to Armour Break as well as to Bleed.
Then you've got his amazing utility: Functionally immune to bleed, but can use it to heal through Willpower. Shuts down all regeneration and Autoblock from #Metal opponents like MODOK, Iron Man Infinity War, Darkhawk and Peni Parker. Bypasses Korgs' Awakened Thorns ability, because he inflicts Energy damage on basic attacks.
I can't stress enough, just how much you should be using him for. Magneto, Doom and Venom will help you get to Cavalier, very easily.
And although you'll eventually leave behind your 4* champs, you'll still be using your 5/65 Magneto when you're a Thronebreaker.
I pulled him myself today from the featured crystal. The main positive I can think of is that since he is in both featured crystals it seems likely he might get buffed.
Tips on Taskmaster from a total amateur at using him. I'm no expert; but enjoy playing with him someone as he's not a brawler, but is a champion who rewards a very deliberate 'dismantle your opponent piece by piece' playstyle.
He does pretty good damage with his Exploit Weakness ability. This is on a countdown; but the countdown can be zeroed if you land a Heavy Attack. If you Parry the opponent at the start of the match, then you're good to go.
Whether you reset it with a Heavy, or it expires naturally, when the countdown gets to zero, watch for a callout like this:
You need to watch for it, and remember it. It's now something you can literally Exploit.
You can exploit it once, within the next ten seconds. The benefits to Exploiting a Weakness are:
It causes Direct Damage.
It can't be Evaded, and can't be Autoblocked.
It gives you a one-second window to start Charging a Heavy Attack, during which you're Opponent will Miss you.
One second might not sounds like much; but it's enough to charge and Throw a Heavy Attack against an opponent who can't retaliate (as long as they don't have Vigilance or something). This gives him a bit of unique utility in being able to easily land Heavy attacks, even if the opponent is immune to Stun*. There are a lot of opponents (like Ebony Maw, for example) where that's incredibly useful; and a lot of nodes (Icarus, Lifecycle, etc) where you have to land Heavies. Taskmaster makes them a lot easier. *And if course, it means you have just reset your Exploit Weakness, and it's ready to use again. So you can do this repeatedly, with short deliberate combos of M-Hvy or M-L-Hvy.
He also reduces defensive ability accuracy effectively and easily: Each unique attack he lands reduces the opponent's Defensive Ability Accuracy (for Evades, Autoblocks, or triggering Regeneration, etc) by 10%. You've got access to six unique attacks (Light, Medium, Heavy, and SP1-3) to potentially reduce defensive ability accuracy by 60%. If you ever get him Awakened, you can go higher.
He can also become immune to debuffs. They become 10% less potent until you get to the tenth debuff; then he's immune to future debuffs (although won't remove any current ones). This can be really useful opponents or nodes that inflict debuffs on you; of which there are many. It means he's effectively immune to Havok's Plasma Feedback detonation, as it'll never detonate.
Lastly, his Special Attacks gain damage if the opponent has suffered, or is carrying any debuffs. Against Opponents who inflict their own debuffs (Immortal Abomination, Kingpin and Daredevil) these can cause pretty serious Bleed damage.
