Has Dr Voodoo been nerfed or is he just limited in usefulness?

I'm a newer player and have read a lot of lists naming Dr Voodoo as the top Mysric ChAmpion and a few even as the top champion in the entire game. It makes me scratch my head - either I simply don't know how to use him or he is only good in certain situations.

My top 3 mystics would be
Ghost Rider - huge regeneration can be triggered multiple times, bleed immune, bleed damage, and a good power drain

Guillotine - the mystic wolverine - continuous regeneration and bleed damage

Magik - power lock on special 2 lasts long enough for you to keep locking it so that opponent never gets a special off after their first. Limbo can be powerful as well.

On the other hand, Voodoo seems weak. Dr Voodoo has regeneration - but it's only at the beginning of the match when half the time you don't even need it. His poison is useful for heroes with many buffs like king groot or old man Logan but most heroes don't have many buffs - even worse, many cosmic champs are poison immune! He has a power drain, but when I've used it it barely takes away any energy from the opponent.

What am I Missing?

I run map 5x5 and voodoo handles section 1 and 3 for me. He may get some use in section 2. I was also able to complete a decent amount of road to the labyrinth with him. Imo h3 is a great champ.

On regards to his regen at start of fight it is useful on high prestige days to mitigate chip damage from parry and block

Voodoo better than all of them and it isn't close. You get one big heal at the start of a fight and if rode properly, you can finish a fight in AQ without even needing it really. Even against poison immune cosmic champs, you can still use sp1 to deny them their buffs and fuel your own MD. Only one in that class I struggle with is Hyperion and that's with anyone I use against him tbh. I hate him period. He has reasonably good power control, but it seems like lately it hasn't worked as good as before 12.1. I still don't get why nobody else is noticing...

GR is good (second best mystic imo) but needs to use sp3 to regen a second time. Magik is really good, but can't regen- only undoes damage. Her power lock is awesome. Beastly sp3 if opponent has buffs. Third best mystic imo for these reasons. Guilly lifesteal too random, trash at longer fights (loses souls).

@StavelotXote nice top 3 man. I have the same 3 in mine as well but Ghost Rider is in my #1 spot. It could change as I start to use voodoo a little more tho!

@DoctorofEvil is your Doctor Voodoo awoken? It seems to me that your not able to use him at his full potential...

I think gr is better than voodoo in aq but voodoo is more useful in the short aw fights

Voodoo has regen, massive poison (which is supplemented by the buffs he placed on the opponent), power control with sp2 and sp3, and ability reduction. If you can't find a way to win most fights using him, you need to re-read his info. He has the tools to win every fight on the board, but he can be a bit tricky to get the hang of.

Have you fought heroes with Ghost rider yet? Not a fun experience

Yes, I love gr. He's only 4/40 and I use him on map 6

He still had a 65%+ chance of triggering his judgments on heroes

keep playing with him you'll get annoyed soon enough when you try to put judgements on say a psylocke and spam 8 sp1s to get no judgement stack :'(

Yep this is my main issue with GR. Awakened DV will always hit on his specials (even) for the desired result. Odd still is very reliable and he reduces ability accuracy. GR is too much RNG (especially against heroes). Using sp2 and not hitting pisses me off, but he is still very good.
