Torch mini boss in AQ is way different from Torch in duel practice?

ValrozValroz Member Posts: 218 ★★★
I practiced all week in duel practice beating Human Torch with Infamous IM. When I finally got to him in AQ, I didn’t even get a chance to build to SP1 to trigger iron armor aura. But in duel practice, iDoom was incinerate immune right from the beginning? What gives? Is there some kind of trickery I missed?

Duel practice

AQ mini

This is nuts. Why this major inconsistency?

Who would be the best counters for this Torch on this node then?

Literally any non-energy damage champion and being skilled enough at the game to dex torch sp1 so he doesn't get smolders, or use iceman who is immune to Nova flames

Can I try 7* Killmonger? If I can dex Torch SP1, I'll be fine right, or will I end up burning to death anyway?

Torch gains a smolder if you block the last hit of his SP1, so you could technically block 6 SP1 and be perfectly fine. A champ like Killmonger would never raise his temperature, so he would be perfectly fine regardless of dexing his SP1.

I did today with my 7 star Killmonger, accidentally ate the end of the Sp2 but otherwise he works fine.

Usually I use R4 Kingpin, previously was using a 5 star Kitty because I have no 6 star.

That'll be fine or you can do what I do and get hit in the face by the last hit since it doesn't do much damage. Ideally you don't want to give torch any smolders because then you'll have to deal with incinerates on yourself

Good thing I did some research before making a fool out of myself again:

is to smoulder and to incinerate something the same thing?
    ChatGPT
No, smouldering and incinerating something are not the same thing.

Smouldering is a slow, low-temperature, flameless form of combustion that occurs when oxygen supply is limited. It typically produces smoke and a glowing ember.

On the other hand, incineration is a high-temperature process that involves the complete combustion of waste materials. It is typically done in a specially designed furnace that operates at very high temperatures to ensure complete destruction of the waste. Incineration usually does not produce smoke, but it does produce ash and gases that must be treated to prevent air pollution.

If something is incinerate immune, can it be smouldered?
    ChatGPT
It is possible for something to be incineration-resistant but still be susceptible to smouldering.

For example, certain materials like asbestos are known to be highly resistant to incineration due to their high melting points and chemical properties. However, asbestos can still smoulder and release harmful smoke and gases when exposed to high temperatures.

Therefore, just because something is resistant to incineration, it does not necessarily mean it is immune to smouldering.

My man ,props to you for researching but smoulders and incinerates don't mean the same in the game as it does in real life.

Here the question is about Nova flames. You as an attacker against Torch will not get smoulder on you. But when torch gets 7 smoulders in AQ , he enters Nova form and places Nova flames instead on incinerates which only iceman is immune to

CAPIW with a skill champ and a tech is great for these mini bosses and was my go-to. Skill champ on the team removes most of the debuffs if you get clipped. The tech chanp will place petrifies on the 2nd mini to reverse regen. His overall tankiness and glancing will mitigate other chip damage.

Void is is also great for the 2nd mini. Just don't throw many specials (if any) so you don't build up smoulders and let the petrifies do the job with reverse healing.

Colossus works great. But 2nd mini can be tricky if you don't out damage regen fast enough.
Rhulk is decent too if you have a beefy one and avoid SP2s. Like colossus though, need to out damage the regen on the 2nd mini.

Colossus is good for first mini, kitty sp2 for second. Colossus can work for 2nd based on nodes or he will just make for a long fight.
