If the lower accounts want access to the same level of rewards (which they have), then they should have to compete against anyone else for those rewards
If they don't want to face those bigger accounts, then they should expect a lower tier of rewards
It's not fun fighting baby accounts up in P2, it's also not fun getting stomped on by whale accounts
but they get the same rewards for moving through the ranks and are in the same pool for the season rewards as paragons, why wouldn't they have to face the full competition?
I don't take issue with the OP's concern, but I also understand that it's necessary to drop off into the deep end at some point. Plat and up is that deep end. My issue is actually the overkill on a system that was already getting better, the Medals, the extra Tiers, etc.
The bottom line is, they're in the competition. You can't say they should get bashed about at the door just because they're among Paragons, and still expect them to keep playing. You also can't expect the game mode and matchmaking mechanics to continue to be as smooth as they are without the numbers.
Nor should you want to. No one's gaming experience is more important than anyone else's. Everyone will hit their plateau, obviously. Not getting anywhere at all is just plain garbage. Why bother allowing them into the mode at all?
Then you have to take into account just how goated the BGs store is. It's the fast track to progress. Giving large accounts the obvious advantage over UC-TB accounts will do nothing but widen the gap. Paragon players would stomp small accounts and use those rewards to beef up their rosters even more. UC players would get stomped, invest everything into Victory Shields and ultimately get nothing for their efforts.
The way the current system works, all players face relatively similar accounts from Bronze to Plat. Meaning, all players do put in around the same amount of work for the majority of the VT. It's 10's fighting 10's and 4's fighting 4's. If 10's started matching 1's, the 10's would become 11's with little to no effort and the 1's would stay at 1 for so much more effort. If they get lucky enough, maybe they could some day get to 2, but unlikely.
Legend title doesn't mean anything anymore btw.
Itβs the same for all.
Store items have similar relative value to each progression tier title.
At least thatβs the goal of the BGs store by design.
Matchmaking should be random, if not from start, at least from the tiers where the 1-1 medal system takes over.
Because as it is now, many strong players will find themselves at the end of the season, placing lower than weaker competition.
Itβs all messed up right now.
Letβs hope seeding brings a totally random matchmaking with it.
There would be no excuses for weighted matchmaking parameters then.
After so many suggestion posts, things changed for the better, and now back to how it all started π€·ββοΈ
Yes, the BG store is highly valuable, but so are the skills you learn along the way by actually progressing through the rest of the game. Cav should progress to TB and TB to Paragon. If you're at a point where you fighting people far above you but you have a lot more progression in the game to go, maybe it's a sign you need to progress your account more.
Open matchmaking doesn't guarantee easy matches, but it does guarantee disadvantaged matches for early UC accounts. Your experience can't be taken as the fact of the situation, because matchmaking widely varies based on time of day, which week you're grinding in, and more. If BGs matchmaking was changed to put everyone in the same pool, early UC accounts would almost exclusively be facing larger accounts. Most likely much larger.
I agree that the skills players are forced to learn are extremely valuable, but playing BGs doesn't mean players aren't also making progress in story content. If you're suggesting that they should just focus on that exclusively, then they might as well make BGs only available to TB+ accounts. And even assuming new players are able to get from UC to Paragon in a week, they will struggle to compete without the BGs store. Again, late Paragon players would stomp their bare minimum Paragon accounts to bits. This would give already stacked rosters such an easy way to farm rewards and boost their progress by just stomping smaller accounts, while the smaller accounts would have to invest tons more effort and resources into making much less progress. It would be such a broken system.
